If you are an employer who has provided benefits to your staff (or their associates) in forms other than salaries and wages, you may be deemed to be providing Fringe Benefits to those staff members and are required to lodge a Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) return.  The Fringe Benefits Tax year ends 31 March 2013 and we would like to help ensure you are meeting your obligations.

What is a Fringe Benefit?

Common examples of Fringe Benefits include motor vehicles, expense payments on behalf of staff, interest free loans, providing entertainment (things like functions or lunches where staff attend), debt waivers, housing benefits, living away from home allowances (LAFHA) and car parking benefits provided to staff or their associates. Other non-salary and wage benefits can also fit the definition of a Fringe Benefit.

What to do?

If you provided Fringe Benefits between 1 April 2012 and 31 March 2013 you must prepare and lodge an FBT return by 28 May 2013.

We are here to help

Please click on the questionnaire below that helps determine if as an employer you are providing Fringe Benefits and are required to lodge an FBT return.  The FBT workbook and declarations are required for all Fringe Benefits provided and need to be completed and returned to us to prepare the FBT return for you.

To meet the lodgement deadline, we will need you to provide the completed questionnaire, workbook and signed declarations to us by 19 April 2013. We can also assist you in calculating the value of the offset required from employees.

Please note, you will need to record the odometer readings of any relevant motor vehicles as of 31 March 2013.
